Logan Webb vs. Germán Márquez
The Giants welcome the Colorado Rockies to Oracle Park tonight as they begin a four game series against their fourth place division rivals.
Taking the mound for the Rockies is Germán Márquez, who enters tonight’s game with a 3.42 ERA, 3.30 FIP, with 141 strikeouts to 49 walks in 136 innings pitched. His last start was against the Marlins, where he went six innings, allowing only two hits and zero runs, striking out seven.
The Giants have seen a fair amount of Márquez and hit fairly well against him. Brandon Belt has a .429 average against him in 28 at bats, with a home run and seven RBI, so he’ll be batting clean-up today. Alex Dickerson, Brandon Crawford, Buster Posey, and Mike Yastrzemski all have strong numbers and home runs against him as well, so this could spell trouble for Márquez, though Posey isn’t in the line-up.
The Giants will counter with Logan Webb, who will enter tonight’s game with a 3.19 ERA, 3.32 FIP, with 82 strikeouts to 24 walks in 79 innings pitched. Webb also had a strong showing in his last appearance, going six innings against the Brewers, allowing three hits and one earned run, striking out nine.
