With the recent roster moves, it seems somewhat likely that Posey’s knee is more worrisome than they’ve led us to believe.
Good morning, baseball fans!
In case you missed it, Brandon Belt will miss tonight’s game again, due to being on bereavement leave after the passing of his grandmother earlier this week.
Meanwhile, Donovan Solano is doing some time on the unspecified injured list, having tested positive for Covid-19. Which is…..not ideal. To say the least. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery, and that no one else on the team was exposed, but you never know.
So Chadwick Tromp and Thairo Estrada are with the team, at least through tonight. It’s not yet clear at the time of this being written when Belt will rejoin the team or who gets moved when he comes back. Curt Casali and Buster Posey getting hurt makes Tromp more necessary than ever, so it’s unlikely that he’ll go when Belt comes back.
But it is slightly worrisome that Tromp was the one to get the call. They obviously couldn’t anticipate Casali’s injury, but with Buster Posey nursing a hurt knee, it’s a worrisome thought. Though Gabe Kapler continues to insist he’s not worried about Posey being out long, so we’ll see.
If you’re into the nerd stuff like stats and facts (for legal purposes the use of the word “nerd” was a joke), and you love arguing with friends and strangers alike, you should check out this piece from Grant Brisbee (who’s that?) over at The Athletic. Grant talks about why the Giants aren’t just lucky, but actually a really talented team. Shocking, I know.
