The Giants added three players to the roster on Friday.

The San Francisco Giants made a flurry of moves on Friday, before their second half opener against the St. Louis Cardinals. Most notable is that ace Kevin Gausman, who was initially slated to start Friday’s game, has been placed on the Family Emergency Medical List.

Gausman’s wife is currently in the hospital due to complications with her pregnancy. It sounds like everything is OK, but suffice to say we’ll be keeping the family in our thoughts.

Making the start for Gausman is Logan Webb, who has been recalled from AAA. Webb has been one of the Giants better pitchers this year, so they’re in good hands.

Two other players are joining Webb as roster additions: outfielder Mike Tauchman, who has been reinstated off of the 10-day Injured List, and right-handed reliever Jay Jackson, who had his contract selected from AAA.

Jackson signed a Minor League contract with the Giants in the offseason, but started the season injured. Since returning to the field he has been lights out, pitching 11 innings and allowing just 3 hits, 1 walk, and 0 runs, with 18 strikeouts.

To make room on the roster for these additions, the Giants optioned infield Jason Vosler. That, combined with Gausman’s placement on the Family Medical Emergency List, and Joey Bart’s option earlier in the week, cleared the three spaces needed.

Jackson, however, needed to be added to the 40-man roster as well, and the Giants made space there by moving third baseman Evan Longoria to the 60-day IL. He won’t be eligible to return until August 5, but is expected to be ready to return then.

The churn continues.

Hopefully all is well with the Gausman family.
