Sacramento is only 2.5 games behind San Antonio in the standings.

The Sacramento Kings are playing the best basketball of their season as they go into the second half of a two-game set against the San Antonio Spurs. The Kings have won five in a row and seven of their last eight games and sit one game behind the Golden State Warriors for the 10th seed in the Western Conference.

De’Aaron Fox had 24 points and five assists, while Richaun Holmes chipped in with 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead Sacramento to a 132-115 win over San Antonio on Monday.

Opposing perspective: Pounding the Rock

Projected Starting Lineups

Kings (22-25): De’Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield, Harrison Barnes, Tyrese Haliburton, Richaun Holmes

Spurs (23-21): DeMar DeRozan, Keldon Johnson, Jakob Poeltl, Dejounte Murray, Derrick White

Injuries/Absences

Spurs: Lonnie Walker IV (right wrist) — PROBABLE; Keita Bates-Diop (right hamstring), Trey Lyles (right ankle) — OUT

The Kings played a great road game against the Spurs on Monday. They shot 56 percent from the field and connected on 18-of-36 3-point attempts. Sacramento also did a great job of taking care of the basketball, turning the ball over only six times. The Kings also pushed the pace and scored 21 points in transition.

Sacramento also got some contributions from its newly-acquired players. Terance Davis and Mo Harkless combined for 27 points in the win.

The Kings’ defense continues to be a major factor for their turnaround. After giving up 21 first-half points to Spurs guard Dejounte Murray, they were able to contain him and hold him to just two points over the final 24 minutes.

With only 25 games to go, Sacramento is very much in the playoff picture. If the Kings can continue this level of play during the season’s stretch drive, they will be in a great position to end the 15-year postseason drought.
