Kevin Durant was ‘blindsided’ by his inclusion in trade talks

February 7, 2025 by Hoops Hype

The Phoenix Suns have informed all interested teams they are not trading Kevin Durant. Several more teams inquired with the Suns after they held talks with the Golden State Warriors. Durant was “blindsided” by his inclusion in trade talks leading to the deadline. “There will be a full evaluation of this team if they’re not able to turn it around by the offseason,” said Shams Charania on NBA Today’s Trade Deadline Special.

There have been multiple reports that Kevin Durant was included in Jimmy Butler trade talks. The Suns categorically deny it.

Sure, it might seem bad at first glance that the Suns alienated Kevin Durant, unsuccessfully begged Bradley Beal to leave, and essentially lit their 2031 pick on fire… but it’s nothing another series of insanely reckless decisions under Mat Ishbia can’t fix. AK – 4:05 PM

As we and others reported, Heat wanted Durant but had a line it wouldn’t cross. Windy just reported now that when Miami asked for Durant, Suns made a “massive request, picks, young players.” Suns now taking calls on Durant from others who might be more willing to give up farm. – 1:13 PM
Dwight Jaynes @dwightjaynes
OK, Trail Blazers. Durant is still in Phoenix. If you want to go all in right away, pick up the phone and find out how crazy they are. You missed him the first time around but you just beat his team twice. His history is “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.” – 1:06 PM
Sam Quinn @SamQuinnCBS
I think the Suns probably keep Kevin Durant today. I think they continue to putter around as a Play-In team. And then I think they probably have to look into trading him over the summer for less than they could have gotten today.
I just think that partnership has run its course. – 9:16 AM

More on this storyline

“I forced everybody to be together,” he said. “That was my job, to make sure we were all on the same page. The best teams are the ones that can be close-knit as a group—without that, you’re not going to win anything.” -via ScoopB.com / February 7, 2025
When discussing his time with the Thunder, Perkins didn’t mince words. “I was the glue,” he stated. “KD knows.” This candid assertion comes on the heels of Durant’s recent response to Perkins on Twitter, which many interpreted as a shot at the former Thunder big man. However, Perkins remains unfazed by Durant’s tweet, dismissing it as “trolling.” As Perkins put it, “That was him trolling. He knows what the real was.” He believes Durant, who went on to win two NBA championships with the Golden State Warriors after his time in Oklahoma City, understands the true dynamics of the Thunder locker room. Perkins’ influence, according to him, was undeniable. -via ScoopB.com / February 7, 2025
“I forced everybody to f*** with everybody,” Perkins continued. “When I got in there, I made sure that everyone was on the same page. I made sure we were all a unit.” For Perkins, his leadership was about more than just basketball skills—he was the emotional leader who held the team together during moments of adversity. -via ScoopB.com / February 7, 2025
