Donald Trump officially accepted the Republican Party’s nomination for the 2024 presidential election at the Republican National Convention Thursday night.
Trump won the presidency over Hillary Clinton in 2016 and lost to Joe Biden in 2020. Now, he’ll be running against Biden again, unless the 81-year-old Commander-in-Chief is replaced on the ballot by the Democrats.
Whoever Trump faces in November, he can count on Steph Curry casting a vote for his opponent. Curry has been outspoken in his criticism of Trump in the past, both during and after the latter’s presidential term.
Two years ago, Curry was asked by Rolling Stone if he took Trump seriously as a threat to regain the White House in 2024. The Golden State Warriors star responded “of course.”
“Most of his rhetoric — before he was president, during his last four years, and even now, if he tries to run again — has a tone of divisiveness that doesn’t have a place in our country,” Curry said.
“As serious and loud as the threat is of him or whoever else is running for office, there’s a similar urgency and a loudness that’s necessary on the other side.”
Win or lose this fall, if Trump sticks around in politics long enough, maybe he’ll face Curry as an actual opponent.
“Maybe,” Curry told Jericka Duncan back in March if he’d ever consider running for office. “I have an interest in leveraging every part of my influence for good in any way that I can, so if that’s the way to do it, then – I’m not going to say the presidency – but if politics are a way you can make meaningful change, then maybe.”
For now, Curry will make due with leading America to greatness on the hardwood. He’ll be playing with Team USA in the Olympics for the first time ever in Paris later this month.
