The former Warriors center is moving to into coaching.
The Golden State Warriors have made a lot of coaching staff moves this offseason, and apparently that’s still underway. According to a report from The Athletic’s Anthony Slater, the team has hired one of their former players, Hilton Armstrong, to the coaching staff. He begins his coaching career in the video department, and has already gotten started.
Slater notes that Armstrong has been with the Warriors Summer League team, both in Sacramento last week and in Las Vegas this week.
Armstrong was the No. 12 overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, and played eight seasons for six different franchises. His final stint came during the 2013-14 season when he played 15 games for the Warriors. A 6’11 center, Armstrong averaged 3.0 points and 2.6 rebounds in 11.6 minutes per game for his career, and shot 50.1% from the field.
The Warriors have made a habit of adding some former players to their coaching and developmental staff over the last few years, ranging from role players like Armstrong to superstars like Steve Nash. It’s fun to see them afford former NBA players an opportunity to continue working in the league.
It represents the first coaching opportunity for Armstrong, who played as recently as 2019-20, when he was a member of the Nagoya Diamond Dolphins, a professional team in Japan.
