Warriors Gaming Squad returns to 2K League playoffs chasing big money

The pressure is on as they take on Pistons GT in a best-of-3 contest to advance towards a prize worth over half a million bucks.

The Golden State Warriors’ chase for greatness continues in the video game world today, as their professional eSports team Warriors Gaming Squad makes their third straight postseason appearance in the NBA 2K League. They’ll be taking on Pistons GT at 5PM PT and you can tune in via Twitch or YouTube Gaming.

The 2021 NBA 2K League playoffs are being held in Dallas, which is a pretty big deal considering this is the first time the league will have in-person games since 2019. There’s also some big money on the line as well, per the league site:

The NBA 2K League will award more than $1 million in prize money during the 2021 Playoffs, with the NBA 2K League champions receiving $450,000 from that pool. The remaining $630,000 will be distributed among the teams that qualify for the 2021 Playoffs (second place – $180,000, third and fourth place – $80,000, fifth through eighth place – $42,500, ninth through twelfth place – $30,000).

Sheesh, maybe it’s time for me to dust off the old PlayStation controller and throw my hat in the ring for next season!

Warriors Gaming Squad made the 2K League Finals last year but fell short to Wizards District Gaming. WGS looks to take care of business this season and bring the first pro gaming basketball title to the Bay. The hometown team is led by Charlie “CB13” Bostwick, who leads the team in both scoring (23.6 PPG) and assists (10.1). CB13 was the runner up in the MVP voting last season. They also feature the rookie Veron “Hezi” Coates, their #3 pick in this season’s draft. He’s averaging 16.9 PPG with a team high 9.4 boards.

This season is a culmination of several years of hard work from the Golden State braintrust. The team is coached by Mike Newton, who is on the basketball operations staff for the Santa Cruz Warriors and most recently joined Warriors assistant coach Mike Brown with Team Nigeria in the Tokyo Olympics.

This series between the #4 seed WGS and the #5 seed Detroit team will be a best-of-3 with the winner advancing to the next round. Dub Nation HQ recently profiled these virtual hoopers ahead of their showdown with Detroit, and they are brimming with confidence.
