Collin Morikawa earns 2nd major victory at 2021 British Open
Former Bear and current professional golfing phenom Collin Morikawa made history Sunday morning, holding off Jordan Spieth with a -4 in the final round to secure a win at the 149th British Open.
The 24-year-old’s PGA Tour career is off to a blistering start, and he is quickly rewriting the record books. With this most recent performance, Morikawa, who graduated from Cal in 2019, became just the fourth American to win the British Open before the age of 25. He is also the only golfer in history to win two major events in his debuts, with this win following his first-place finish at the 2020 PGA Championship.
Morikawa’s summer is far from over, though. The former Bear is finding his groove at just the right time, as he will be representing the United States at the fast-approaching Olympic Games in Tokyo. The men’s Olympic golf tournament will commence July 25, and Morikawa — who is currently the fourth-ranked golfer in the world — will enter the competition fresh off of one of the best performances of his young career.
