The 49ers’ 2021 draft class hasn’t contributed yet in the way the team might’ve anticipated. However, while No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance and third-round pick Trey Sermon have been largely absent, and sixth-round selection Elijah Mitchell has been dealing with an injury, they all managed to land in the top eight among rookies in rushing yards through six weeks.
Perhaps most impressively, the 49ers were on a bye in Week 6 which gave other first-year players a full extra game to slide past the San Francisco rookies.
Of the 259 players selected in this year’s draft, 18 were running backs. There were also 10 quarterbacks taken. San Francisco was responsible for two of those RBs drafted and one of the quarterbacks.
