Today, the San Francisco 49ers announced that they had extended the contract of U.S. Bank 49ers Radio Network color analyst Tim Ryan through the 2025 season. Ryan will continue to work with Voice of the 49ers Greg Papa, who joined the 49ers in 2019.
“Having heard and seen the tremendous chemistry between Tim and Greg through two very different seasons, we are thrilled to keep the partnership together for the benefit of The Faithful,” said 49ers President Al Guido. “In just a short time together, they have already teamed up for a plethora of memorable calls as the team marched to a Super Bowl appearance in year one. Their professionalism and passion for 49ers football shined through this past season as the team navigated a most trying season. Despite having to broadcast every road game of 2020 from the Levi’s Stadium broadcast booth, the quality of their work never wavered. We are privileged to have one of the strongest team broadcasts in all of sports and made it a priority to keep Greg and Tim together for a very long time.”
Since joining the 49ers in 2014 as the team’s color analyst, Ryan has been involved with the 49ers’ website and television productions, in addition to emceeing a number of events for the organization. He also takes part in weekly hits on KNBR 680 AM/104.5 FM to go along with multiple television segments on NBC Sports Bay Area.
Prior to officially joining the 49ers, Ryan served as the color analyst for the team’s preseason television broadcasts in each of the previous three seasons and was recognized nationally for his role as a Westwood One Radio analyst and his former roles as an NFL on FOX analyst (2002-2013) and a SiriusXM NFL Radio host (2004-2013).
Ryan starred at Oak Grove High School in San Jose, CA, and was a San Jose Mercury News All-CCS selection. He went on to play collegiately at USC, where he was a two-time All-America selection (1988-89) and helped lead the Trojans to three consecutive Rose Bowls (1987-89). Ryan was selected by the Chicago Bears in the third round (61st overall) of the 1990 NFL Draft and played with the team from 1990-93.
