The 2021 NFL Draft is just a few hours, but the San Fransisco 49ers are far from settled at the No. 3 overall pick. Instead, John Lynch, Kyle Shanahan and the rest of the organization are making sure they’ve exhausted all of their possible options are the quarterback position.
One of those players connected to rumors was Green Bay Packers veteran Aaron Rodgers. A bombshell report surfaced early on Thursday that the 49ers offered a massive trade package for the 2020 MVP, but the move was ultimately denied by the quarterback’s current team. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero confirmed that San Fransisco reached out to Green Bay about Rodgers, but disputed that a legitimate offer was on the table.
However, the three-time MVP wasn’t the only quarterback who the 49ers have been monitoring. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, San Fransisco has also been paying close attention to Deshaun Watson.
The Houston Texas quarterback first found himself in the news this offseason after demanding a trade, which the AFC South organization refused to give him. However, trade talk was quickly shelved after over 20 women filed lawsuits against Watson alleging that the 25-year-old engaged in various sexual improprieties, including one instance of sexual assault.
The quarterback’s team has adamantly denied any wrongdoing, but the legal situation is ongoing.

With the 49ers current assets, Lynch and Shanhan are wise to at least pay attention to both veteran quarterbacks. However, given how each situation has unfolded, it looks like San Fransisco will focus on choosing a rookie quarterback at No. 3 on Thursday.
Just before the NFL Draft got underway, North Dakota State’s Trey Lance overtook Mac Jones as the betting favorite to land with the 49ers. Both quarterbacks have been connected to the franchise over the past few weeks, but it remains unclear which one the Niners will take.
The NFL world will find out soon enough when the first round of the draft gets underway at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday night.
