There’s two questions on the minds of 49ers fans everywhere this off-season: will Jimmy Garoppolo still be a Niner when the 2021 season commences? And if so, will he be the starter? If you ask star running back Raheem Mostert, he says yes to both questions.
The Niners obtained the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft from the Miami Dolphins and intend to use it to select a quarterback. Doing so would spark quite the quarterback competition in the Bay Area.
While Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch continue to voice support for Garoppolo, some believe they’re doing so to up his value for a potential trade. Mostert doesn’t see it happening.
The rising star revealed in an interview on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio that believes Garoppolo will be the team’s starting quarterback this upcoming season.

Even if Jimmy Garoppolo does start Week 1, there’s no guarantee he’ll remain the starter throughout the season. The reality is the Niners are selecting a rookie with the hope he can be their new franchise quarterback.
Eventually, San Francisco will probably move on from Garoppolo. It’s most likely only a matter of time, unless the veteran exceeds expectations early on during the 2021 season.
Another route the Niners could take would be to trade Garoppolo to acquire another pick in this year’s draft. It’d then be the the rookie quarterback’s starting gig to lose, whether it be Justin Fields, Trey Lance or Mac Jones.
As the 2021 NFL Draft approaches, it seems more and more likely Garoppolo isn’t leaving the Bay Area this year, though. Shanahan, Lynch, George Kittle and now Raheem Mostert continue to voice their support for the 29-year-old quarterback.
