San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk will be at training camp this week.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, Aiyuk will be at training camp despite requesting a trade from the team last week. The 49ers have still not had extensive contract talks with Aiyuk since May.
Despite requesting a trade last week, the 49ers are under no obligation to honor his request. They can just keep him for the season and figure out the next steps once it’s over.
However, if they get an enticing offer, they could look to move him. There have been plenty of teams that have been rumored to have interest, including the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Washington Commanders.
They also see Aiyuk as a star in the NFL and based on the way he has played so far, they’re not wrong. Aiyuk finished the 2023 season with 75 receptions for 1,342 yards (career-high) and seven touchdowns.
This was his second straight 1,000-yard campaign and he has now recorded 269 receptions for 3,931 yards and 25 touchdowns since being drafted in 2020.
The 49ers will start the regular season on September 9 against the New York Jets.
