The 49ers may not get a chance to draft BYU quarterback Zach Wilson, who is regarded by some as the best signal caller in this year’s class. Instead they could target Zach Wilson’s top wide receiver from last season.
San Francisco is set to have a virtual meeting with WR Dax Milne according to Justin Melo of the Draft Wire.
Milne was the beneficiary of Wilson’s remarkable 2020 campaign, leading the team and setting career highs in receptions, receiving yards and touchdown catches. He hauled in 70 balls for 1,188 yards and eight touchdowns.
The Year 3 breakout for Milne came after an extremely quiet start to his college career. As a freshman with the Cougars he caught just 10 passes for 69 yards and one touchdown in eight games. He followed that with a sophomore campaign that included 285 yards and two touchdowns on 21 receptions.
A monster junior season will put Milne on draft boards, but questions about his single year of big-time production as well as the level of competition will likely keep him from climbing very high. With a slew of other needs though, it would make sense for the 49ers to wait until later in the draft if they were looking to snag a wide receiver. Milne is the type of player worth taking a look at especially if they’re still searching for a WR late.
