The 49ers may have more significant changes coming to their organization after four years of stability. Vice President of Player Personnel, Adam Peters, is set to interview for the Carolina Panthers’ open general manager position
49ers general manager John Lynch on Monday talked about some of the pending changes that could be coming to the front office in his season-ending press conference.
“Yeah, we have received notifications. I don’t know how specific, but on Robert and Adam, Robert (Saleh) had a few places, Adam had one and are expecting at least one with (VP of Player Personnel) Martin (Mayhew),” Lynch said via video conference. “So, despite a tough year, we’ve got a lot of talented people here. We knew that. We actually take pride in that. We believe in them as well and people have interest and so it’s really more of a notification than ask for permission because of the rules and how they’re constructed. So, people did go through that process, though.”
Lynch later specified Carolina would be the team Peters is interviewing with. There was no follow-up on Mayhew’s possible departure.
Peters joined the 49ers’ front office when Lynch arrived in 2017 after spending the previous eight years with the Denver Broncos. There was some speculation before the season that San Francisco might shuffle their front office to give Peters the GM title. That move doesn’t appear to be coming and now he’ll try and snag that title in Carolina.
Mayhew is listed on the team site as having been the VP of player personnel for the last two seasons after spending two years as a senior personnel executive. He also spent time with the Giants and was the Detroit Lions general manager prior to that.
