The 49ers expected big things out of Jalen Hurd when they drafted him back in 2019. Unfortunately, he hasn’t seen the field all too much.
Hurd has dealt with a number of injuries so far during his professional career. The former Baylor Bear continues to deal with injuries heading into the 2021 season.
The San Francisco 49ers placed Hurd on the injured reserve on Friday. He will be unavailable for some time.
The 49ers, meanwhile, are moving forward with Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, Trent Sherfield, Mohamed Sanu and Jauan Jennings.
“Disappointed to be certain because it’s been a long journey for Jalen,” said 49ers GM John Lynch, via NBC Sports. “Year one was a stress fracture in his back that sidelined him for the year. Last year, right before the season, we had kind of been ramping him up, and bam, he goes and tears his ACL right before the year. So, that was disappointing.
“Now, we get him back, and he’s had some bumps in the road, and as those things do, [his knee] flared up at the wrong time. It was during training camp. But then he came back and got healthy. … And unfortunately, it just happened for him at the wrong time, which was right after he played in that [preseason] Raiders game.”
