The 49ers have made a slew of roster moves since their season ended. There’ll be plenty of moves in free agency and the draft, but these preliminary moves before the new league year opens involve Reserve/Future contracts that allow players the opportunity to compete for roster spots the following offseason.
Players on future contracts are simply given an opportunity to be on the 90-man roster. It doesn’t guarantee or imply a 53-man roster spot will be made available by final cuts.
Teams typically do one large sweep of Reserve/Future signings, but the 49ers began with one of those before adding several others in subsequent additions.
