It sounds like Kyle Shanahan grew tired of answering questions about the Niners’ quarterback situation a while ago. Today, he let everyone know about it.
It has been clear since training camp that Jimmy Garoppolo will be San Francisco’s starter in Week 1. Rookie Trey Lance is set to back him up, and Shanahan may find opportunities to use Lance in certain packages to start the year.
However, the fifth-year head coach has not formally said Garoppolo will start; as a result, he keeps getting asked by reporters about his plans for the QB position. This afternoon, he shot back.
According to The Athletic’s David Lombardi, Shanahan accused the media of being “hard-headed” because of their repeated questions about the starting quarterback job.
Shanahan says the media has been “hard-headed” for continually asking him who the 49ers’ starting QB is even though he’s made it clear since July 27. That’s why he’s refusing to answer the question.
Hint: It’s Jimmy Garoppolo

This isn’t the first time Shanahan has hinted as his annoyance regarding quarterback questions. He did it in a milder fashion last week when asked why he hadn’t announced his QB1.
“I don’t need to announce the quarterback, I don’t think I need to announce the starting punt returner, either, but I bet you guys can figure it out,” Shanahan said, via Pro Football Talk.
Fortunately for Shanahan, and the reporters who cover the Niners, we’re only a few days away from games getting underway. Once that happens, there will be other things to talk about.
