On Tuesday afternoon, San Francisco 49ers fans received some tough injury news about the team’s best running back.
Star running back Raheem Mostert announced he’s done for the season. He suffered a knee injury during the team’s game against the Detroit Lions and was reportedly going to be sideline for eight weeks.
However, he announced he needs to undergo surgery, which will shut him down for the rest of the season. Mostert said he made the decision after he met with multiple doctors.
“Faithful, After consulting with multiple doctors and weighing my options, I will be having season-ending surgery to repair my knee. … I’m gutted. This sucks! This is obviously not what I worked so hard for. I wish more than anything I could be out there on the field with my brothers!!! Thank you for your support in our decisions. I’M FAR FROM DONE!”
Fans were absolutely gutted by the news. Mostert finally looked like he was ready to take over as the team’s lead back and that was taken away from him before it even started.
Crushed for Raheem Mostert and Jason Verrett. Injuries suck.

As a fan, this sucks because I love seeing the Mosterati on the field.

With Mostert done for the season, the 49ers will have to rely on a handful of unproven players.
Eli Mitchell took over after Mostert left and ended up with 104 yards and one touchdown on 19 carries. San Francisco also has third-round pick Trey Sermon and former second-round pick Kerryon Johnson on the roster as well.
