Trey Lance is no longer on the injury report
The 49ers received good news Friday afternoon as Trent Williams returned from an ankle injury. Williams hadn’t practiced all week. Williams returning is a good sign for the star left tackles status Sunday against the Bears.
Trey Lace was on-hand during the stretching portion of practice. Kyle Shanahan spoke about Lance’s injury Friday morning on KNBR, saying, “I think he will be” when asked if the rookie would be available.
Dee Ford (concussion), Samson Ebukam (ankle), or Azeez Al-Shaair (concussion) were all absent at the start of today’s practice, per the beat reporters on-hand. The 49ers’ depth continues to take a hit.
Thankfully, Jordan Willis is no longer suspended. Expect him and Arden Key to see more snaps. As for who replaces Al-Shaair’s replacement, Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles and Tyrell Adams are the only healthy linebackers left on the roster outside of Marcell Harris.
San Francisco signed safety Tony Jefferson to its practice squad earlier this week. I wonder if, between Jefferson and Talanoa Hufanga, we see more sub-packages with an additional safety instead of a linebacker Sunday.
Here’s the final injury report:
DT Javon Kinlaw
DT Maurice Hurst
S Jaquiski Tartt
DE Dee Ford
LB Azeez Al-Shaair
LT Trent Williams
DE Samson Ebukam
Lance isn’t on the injury report and will backup Jimmy Garoppolo, per Shanahan, who said, “Any time Trey’s up, there’s a potential for a package in the game.”
Shanahan also said, “we need to get (Kevin) Givens up, especially with our defensive line.”
Shanahan said that Kinlaw’s season is over after having knee surgery, and he’ll be placed on the injured reserve: “There’s lot things went into it and what they found. Good news is they think they solved the problem.”
Per Matt Maiocco, “CB Deommodore Lenoir and P Mitch Wishnowsky will not travel with the 49ers today due to personal reasons (good reasons). But both are expected to join the team in Chicago.”
Khalil Mack has been ruled out for the Bears. Here’s a look at their injury report:
