Raiders’ quarterback is a first timer at event
While training camp doesn’t start for another three weeks, Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr will get in some competition in this week.
Carr is in the field at the American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada. This is Carr’s first year competing in the annual event.
The rookie isn’t expected to be a serious contender, however. According to BetOnline, Carr is a 500-1 longshot to win the event. The favorites to win are former tennis pro Mardy Fish (9-4), former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo (5-2) and Golden State Warriors’ star Steph Curry (7-2).
Carr won’t be the only Silver and Black presence in Tahoe this week. Pro Football Hall of Famers wide receiver Jerry Rice (150-1) and running back Marcus Allen (500-1) are also in the field.
Carr also has a chance to win some AFC West bragging rights. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (he is also a 500-1 shot to win) is playing for the second straight year.
Events began Tuesday and the tournament will run through Sunday. I have covered the event multiple times and it‘s tremendous. If you can find a way to get to Lake Tahoe, it’s well worth it.
