Former Raiders left tackle Jared Veldheer will make NFL playoff history on Saturday

Veldheer signs with Green Bay after playing for the Colts in the wild card round

This is the wildest NFL season we’ve ever seen and crazy things are continuing to happen in the playoffs. We now have an all-time crazy postseason story that involves a former Raiders draft pick.

ESPN reported on Monday that offensive tackle Jared Veldheer will be the first (and likely only ever) NFL player to play for two teams in the same postseason.

New Packers’ OT Jared Veldheer now will become the first player in NFL history to play for two teams in the same postseason. COVID practice-squad rules made it possible. Only this season…. https://t.co/lVxkbPXvbR

It appeared that Veldheer’s 2020 season ended with the Indianapolis Colts in a loss at the Buffalo Bills on Saturday. Yet, two days later, Veldheer signed with the Green Bay Packers and can play Saturday in the NFC divisional round against the Los Angeles Rams.

Only in the 2020 NFL season, indeed.

The loophole was that Veldheer was on the Colts’ practice squad and he reverted back to it after the game, so he was available to the Packers to sign.

What a wild ride for Veldheer, who is already used to switching teams as this is his fourth switch in two years. Veldheer played in the playoffs with the Packers last season.

Al Davis drafted Veldheer in 2010 and he was the starting left tackle until he departed for the Arizona Cardinals after the 2013 season. So, Raiders fans get to enjoy a little piece of this NFL playoff oddity.
