Tonight will be the culmination for a long journey for several NFL greats. Three of whom are former Raiders. It’s the eve of the Super Bowl which means it’s the NFL Honors show. And with it, the announcement of the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2021.
The Raiders legends who hope to hear their name called tonight as finalists for the Hall of Fame are Tom Flores, Charles Woodson, and Richard Seymour.
Flores and Woodson are on two opposite sides of the Hall of Fame eligibility spectrum. Woodson is in his first year of eligibility while Flores is a finalist via the senior committee. And yet both have a very high likelihood of getting the call to the hall.
Flores is one of just two remaining two-time Super Bowl winning NFL head coaches yet to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, having retired some 27 years. Woodson is one of the greatest defenders to ever play the game, making him a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame on the first ballot.
Seymour’s chances are slimmer, but the 7-time Pro Bowler, 3-time All Pro and 3-time Super Bowl champion has a shot. He wouldn’t be a finalist if he didn’t.
The final Raider who is up for an award tonight is current fullback Alex Ingold who is the team’s nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award.
In an exclusive interview with Ingold last year, he and I discussed his efforts to help foster children across the country get adopted, as he was when he was a child. The Raiders and the NFL are recognizing his efforts and have placed him among the nominees to receive one of the league’s most coveted awards.
The NFL Honors show begins at 6pm Pacific time tonight on CBS.
