One-stop reading for all the NFL coaching firing news
It is Black Monday, the worst day in the NFL as angry and disappointed team owners take their frustrations out on coaches and staff for not making the playoffs.
Since the end of games Sunday, three other teams made changes. Let’s look at them:
Gase had to go. The Jets went 2-14 and were awful. With the No. 2 overall pick, this will be a decent job for candidates to pursue.
We also saw this one coming. The Jaguars are likely to go big-name hunting (Urban Meyer, anyone?). With Trevor Lawrence sitting as the prize, this will be a coveted gig.
I think this is the best job open. A new coach will get Justin Herbert, several other good players, decent salary-cap space, a great, new stadium and the Los Angeles market. The Chargers should get a good coach.
John Elway is not going to be the general manager anymore.
Although Elway’s top lieutenant Matt Russell had chance to interview for GM job and stay, he has decided to retire and spend time with family and kids, per source. He will assist Elway thru the GM search. Russell spent 20 years in NFL—12 with Broncos—and won 3 Super Bowls.

Thoughts: The Broncos need a new voice and direction. Elway isn’t going anywhere, but new blood will help.
