Left guard Richie Incognito is also getting closer to returning
The Las Vegas Raiders may soon get reinforcements for their offensive line that was under major stress for the past week.
Raiders coach Jon Gruden said on Monday afternoon that his “fingers are crossed” that standout right tackle Trent Brown can return and play at the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Brown missed the Raiders’ 45-20 defeat at home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers yesterday because he is on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Brown was placed on the list last Wednesday.
However, Gruden said that Brown is feeling good and they hope he can pass a series of coronavirus tests to be reinstated in time to play against the Browns.
Meanwhile, Gruden said left guard Richie Incognito has made great strides in the past couple of days in his quest to return from an Achilles injury. He has been on the injured reserve since Week 2. Gruden made it sound like it would be a long shot that Incognito can return this week, but perhaps he could target the following week at the Los Angeles Chargers.
If the Raiders can get Brown back this week and have a week of practice with most of their starting offensive line unlike last week, it would go a long way to getting the unit back in a groove. Of course, four starting linemen missed every practice last week because they were in close contact with Brown.
Also, safety Johnathan Abram was taken off the reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday and he will practice and play this week. He was in close contact with Brown on Tuesday.
