Raiders News: Maxx Crosby Named AFC Special Teams Player Of The Week After Win Over Broncos

Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his contributions in the Week 17 win over the Denver Broncos.

Crosby, who is usually known for rushing and sacking quarterbacks, made his biggest impact on special teams in Week 17 by blocking two field goals in a game the Raiders won by one point.

He also made some solid contributions on the defensive side of the ball as well, finishing with four total tackles, two quarterback hits, a sack and a tackle for loss.

Expectations were high for Crosby going into his second NFL season after having a breakout rookie year. While he wasn’t able to fully meet them, he still had a solid overall season, finishing with 39 total tackles, seven sacks, 14 tackles for loss and 13 quarterback hits.

The Raiders’ defense as a whole, however, was a disaster in 2020, and because of that, they are currently looking for a new defensive coordinator and hopefully some better players for the 2021 season.

They do have some solid young pieces to build around in Crosby, Trayvon Mullen and Clelin Ferrell, but significant improvements will have to be made if the Raiders want to improve on their 8-8 record in 2020 and get back to the postseason next year.

After drafting Crosby in the fourth round in 2019 though, the Raiders have proven they can find diamonds in the rough, so hopefully they can do the same this offseason.
