Raiders Week 17 snap counts vs Broncos: CB Nevin Lawson starts, sees nearly every snap over Damon Arnette

January 4, 2021 by Raiders Wire Leave a Comment

Last Friday, Jon Gruden said the two players he wanted to see most in the finale were his young defensive backs, Johnathan Abram and Damon Arnette. But that’s not really how it played out.

While Abram started and saw most of the defensive snaps, Arnette was rarely seen. Instead, it was Nevin Lawson who got the start at cornerback and missed just one snap in the game. While Arnette saw just 17 snaps (21%).

Lawson is set to hit free agency, so perhaps Gruden wanted to give him one more shot to help him decide whether to bring him back for another season. He had an up and down game in coverage and finished second on the team with nine combined tackles.

Gruden also praised Nicholas Morrow for being possibly the team’s best linebacker this season. He too is coming up on free agency. Morrow led the team in tackles (10). Meanwhile, despite the absence of Nick Kwiatkoski at middle linebacker, Raekwon McMillan saw his snaps drop back down. He played 29 snaps in the game (36%), logging four tackles and a pass breakup.
