Nothing went right tonight
The A’s lost in embarrassing fashion on Friday night at Sutter Health Park, falling to the New York Yankees 10-2 to kick off a critical weekend series against the Bronx Bombers.
Osvaldo Bido took to the hill for the Athletics to begin the game. The right-hander was making his eighth start for the A’s this year but he didn’t have it from the jump. He was lucky escape the first unscathed but New York tagged him for a pair of solo home runs in the third off the bats of Paul Goldschmidt and Jason Dominguez. Bido would yield another run in the fifth off a sacrifice fly and another in the sixth thanks to an error from second baseman Luis Urias. Bido wouldn’t finish the frame, ending his day after 96 pitches

Bido came into this start on a bit of a slump and that continued against the Yankees. Considering they possess one of the best lineups in the league it was an admirable start from the 29-year-old Bido. He now has a 4.75 ERA and will likely take the hill again next week against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Two tough assignments back-to-back.
Meanwhile the offense was facing Yankees righty Will Warren who entered tonight as New York’s weakest link in their rotation. So of course he would have the game of his life. Over the game’s first seven innings the A’s could only manage two singles and one walk against Warren. They would finally chase him from the game in the eighth with back-to-back singles to open the frame and Jacob Wilson ensured the team wouldn’t be shut out with an RBI knock:

New York would add on an extra run in the seventh before busting this game wide open with a grand slam in the eighth off the bat of Dominguez, his second home run of the day. The A’s added on a meaningless run in the bottom of the ninth before this game finally, mercifully ended.
Nothing went right for the A’s tonight. Bido was shaky, the bullpen let this game get out of hand, and the lineup was more or less helpless for the majority of the game against New York’s weakest starter. Let’s just forget this one.
The squad will get a chance for revenge tomorrow afternoon in the second game of the series. It’ll be a battle of lefties as JP Sears takes the hill for the A’s while veteran Carlos Rodon will take the mound for the Yankees.
