Strained quadriceps for Ginn
The A’s announce on Tuesday afternoon that rookie right-hander JT Ginn was going back on the IL just a day after getting activated, this time for a strained right quadriceps:
The Athletics have placed right-handed pitcher J.T. Ginn on the 15-day injured list with a strained right quadriceps and recalled right-handed pitcher Anthony Maldonado from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Taking his place on the active roster will be Anthony Maldonado, who was only just sent to Triple-A yesterday to make room on the active roster for Ginn. Because there is an injury the team didn’t have to wait the necessary 10 days before bringing Maldonado back to the big league roster.
This marks the second setback for Ginn since joining the big league roster. After overcoming a bout of elbow inflammation Ginn returned to start last night’s contest against the Angels. Making his fourth start of the season Ginn was up and down but there wasn’t any reason to believe he had suffered a setback or separate injury. He’ll now take some time off to recover and hopefully return as quickly as he did the first time, when he missed just over two weeks.
With the team not in need of a fifth starter for the next few days Maldonado will return to provide a boost to the bullpen. He’s already made his season debut for the Athletics this season, tossing one inning against the Giants and allowing two runs. He’s been dominant down in the minors this year so fingers crossed he can find his groove over the next few days because this could end up being another short stay for the right-hander.
