Logan Davidson and Jhonny Pereda optioned
The A’s made a couple of expected roster moves on Monday afternoon before beginning their series against the Angels, reinstating first baseman Nick Kurtz from the IL and adding catcher Austin Wynns to the activate roster:

To make room on the active roster the club optioned rookie infielder Logan Davidson and backup catcher Jhonny Pereda back to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Kurtz returns to the lineup after missing nearly the minimum amount of time. The lefty slugger was hitting just .245/.315/.447 in his first action as a major leaguer but had hit four home runs in the six games before hitting the IL with the strained left hip flexor. He should provide a boost to the offense from the left side of the plate and allow Tyler Soderstrom to return to his new position of left field, pushing outfielders JJ Bleday and Seth Brown into pure bench roles. Kurtz looks ready to return after he hit a home run in his lone rehab appearance.
Wynns joins the Athletics for the first time in his career after the club acquired him in a trade with the Cincinnati Reds. The 34-year-old veteran has played sparingly in the majors over the past two seasons but has hit well in his limited sample, going 23-for-59 with three home runs in just 25 games played. He’ll provide a veteran option for the Athletics while starting catcher Shea Langeliers is on the IL with his oblique strain, which could be a while. The team clearly wasn’t enthusiastic about their rookie options behind the plate getting full-time playing time and will now rely on Wynns going forward. Let’s hope he continues to hit well with his sixth career team. He’s not in the starting lineup tonight but could make an appearance later in the game.
Davidson will now find himself back in Triple-A after spending the past couple of weeks with the big league team. The former 1st-round pick went just 3-for-20 in his first taste of major league action, not looking quite ready for The Show. He’ll now return to the Aviators and try to work his way back up and stay ready in case another injury crops up.
Pereda will follow Davidson to Vegas. He turned out to be the odd man out with Wynns coming aboard, losing out to fellow rookie Willie MacIver for the second catcher spot. He’ll do the same as Davidson, staying ready in case there is an emergency with the big league team.
