Muncy began the season on the major league roster, even making his major league debut starting at second base on Opening Day. He struggled in his first taste of the major leagues, slashing just .176/.211/.279 with just one home run. Soon current starter Luis Urias began eating into his playing time before finally getting optioned after just a few weeks.
Since returning to the minors the former 1st-round pick has impressed, hitting .325/.397/.504 with three home runs. That was enough to earn him his second call up this afternoon and he could see a fair amount of playing time moving forward with the way the standings are looking right now.
Alexander made his season debut with the Athletics on the 23rd. He only made it into six games, going just 3-for-17 in his brief time with the big league team. He’ll now return to Triple-A and try to work his way back into the mix for the Athletics.
