Langeliers homers and Miller notches first save of 2025

Fresh off a dominant pitching performance and some clutch and timely hitting, the Athletics take on the Seattle Mariners in game three of a four game series at Seattle’s T-Mobile Park. A’s skipper Mark Kotsay sent 29-year-old righty Osvaldo Bido to the mound tonight against 26-year-old righty Bryce Miller for the Mariners.

Bido got off to a bit of a rough start. Victor Robles lined his first pitch of the night off the top of the left field wall, and he hit Julio Rodriguez in the ribcage with his second. He loaded the bases with a 4-pitch walk before even throwing his first strike. But Randy Arozarena hit a bullet line-drive to Max Muncy for a double play and he struck out Luke Raley to end the inning with no runs allowed.

In the bottom of the second, he got into some trouble again. After striking out Jorge Polanco, he gave up base hits to Rowdy Tellez and Ryan Bliss. Tellez moved up on a fly out by J.P. Crawford and he scored when Bliss stole second, and Langeliers’ throw sailed into the outfield. That gave the Mariners an early 1-0 lead.

The A’s took over the lead in the top of the fourth inning when Brent Rooker singled and Shea Langeliers hit his first homer of the season into the left field stands. Shea’s bomb gave the Athletics a 2-1 lead.

Miguel Andujar led off the fifth inning with a base hit. Jacob Wilson singled and moved to third on the throw attempting to nab Andujar at third. Lawrence Butler walked to load the bases for Brent Rooker. But Rook got caught looking at strike three right down Broadway. Bido worked himself into a jam again in the bottom of the inning, walking J.P. Crawford and then plunking Victor Robles, putting runners on first and second with no outs. He struck out JRod looking for the first out. And then the pitcher’s best friend, a double play ball by Cal Raleigh, rescued him, At the end of five the score remained 2-1 in favor of the Athletics.

JJ Bleday walked to open the sixth. He scored on a Miguel Andujar base hit. Andujar’s RBI single knocked out Mariners starter Bryce Miller with two down in the sixth inning. Randy Arozarena walked to open the bottom half of the sixth. That was all for Bido, whose final line was 5.0 innings, three hits, four walks and two runs (one earned). Hogan Harris replaced him and promptly tried to pick off Arozarena, but his attempt flew past Soderstrom and allowed Arozarena to move to third. Polanco singled, driving in the second run of the night for the Mariners. Dylan Moor walked moving Polanco to second. That ended Harris’ night. He was replaced by 6-foot-8-inch Noah Murdock, making his MLB debut. Murdock got Bliss to line out softly to Butler in right field. He then struck out J.P. Crawford looking to end the threat.

Jacob Wilson ended up on second when he popped up about six feet in front of home plate, but the pitcher violated rule number one on the mound, get out of the way and let the guys paid to catch the ball make the play. He dropped the ball. Wilson moved to third on a ground out by Butler and scored on a hustling infield hit by Brent Rooker. That gave the A’s a 4-2 lead. Murdock stayed in the game to pitch the seventh inning. We walked Julio Rodriguez but easily retired the side to end the inning.

In the top of the eighth, Tyler Soderstrom singled, extending his season-opening hit streak to three games. Unfortunately, he was stranded on second when the inning ended. Tyler Ferguson replaced Murdock in the bottom of the eighth inning. He sent the Mariners down 1-2-3. After an uneventful top of the ninth, Mason Miller made his 2025 debut, replacing Tyler Ferguson. Miller made quick work of Bliss, striking him out on four pitches. He got ahead of JP Crawford, but he managed a single to right field. Victor Robles struck out for the second out of the inning. Miller caught Rodriguez looking at a called strike three to end the game and log his first save of the 2025 season.
