Wilson extends Hit streak to lucky 13

The Athletics took on the San Diego Padres in game three of this homestand at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento. Osvaldo Bido got the start for the A’s against Randy Vasquez for the Padres.

In the bottom of the second, Langeliers and Bleday started the inning with walks. Jacob Wilson singled to load the bases. With one down, Luis Urias hit a sacrifice fly to shallow centerfield. Originally Langeliers was called out at home, but the call was overturned, giving the A’s a 1-0 lead.

That base hit gave Wilson a season-starting 13-game hit streak. He still has a way to go before catching Jason Giambi’s 25-game streak in 1997.

With one out in the top of the third, Xander Bogaerts and Manny Machado each singled. After Bido struck out Gavin Sheets, Oscar Gonzales singled to score Bogaerts to tie the score at 1-1.

Xander Bogaerts opened the fifth inning with a leadoff double. Bogaerts has started the day 3-3. Many Machado popped out to right field, moving Bogaerts to third. A Gavin Sheets sacrifice fly brought Bogaerts home giving the Pads a 2-1 lead.

In the top of the sixth, Angel Perdomo replaced Osvaldo Bido. Bido gave up nine hits and no walks leading to two earned runs. Noah Murdock replaced Perdomo in the top of the seventh inning. With one down, he walked Manny Machado, but Sheets ground into a double play ending the inning for the A’s.

In the bottom of the eighth. Lawrence Butler walked with two outs and stole second. That brought up Brent Rooker, who unfortunately struck out to end the inning.

Justin Sterner entered to pitch the top of the ninth. Martín Maldonado singled and Manny Machado walked with two outs. TJ McFarland replaced Sterner. Yuli Gurriel pinch hit for Gavin Sheets. Gurriel grounded out unassisted to Max Schuemann at third for the force out to end the threat. Tyler Soderstrom led off in the bottom of the ninth against Padres Closer Robert Suarez. Soderstrom walked to get things started. But Shea Langeliers ground into a 5-3 double play. JJ Bleday popped out to shallow centerfield to end the game. The Padres took the game and the series 2-1. The A’s have Thursday off before starting a weekend series against the Mets at Sutter Health Park.
