A’s go for series sweep today in Oakland
The Oakland Athletics face off against the hapless Miami Marlins today in the series finale at the Oakland Coliseum. The 17-17 A’s, fresh off a total domination of the Marlins yesterday, will be fighting for their seventh straight win, and while we have already clinched a series win, why not go for the sweep.
The Marlins came into this series, seemingly with momentum after sweeping the Rockies at home in Miami, but the combination of the red-hot A’s and trading their best hitter, Luis Arraez, to the Padres literally minutes before Friday’s first pitch seems to have taken the wind out of their sails.
Mark Kotsay will send 24-year-old righty Joe Boyle to the mound today. Boyle is 2-4 in his six 2024 starts with a 6.08 ERA. He will be facing 25-year-old righty Sixto Sanchez for the Marlins. Sanchez has been an enigma for Miami, once the team’s number one prospect but is back on the mound now after not throwing a single professional pitch since the end of the 2020 season. He brings an 0-1 record after two starts and seven relief appearances this season.
Sanchez will face the following lineup for the A’s:
Boyle will go up against this Marlins lineup sent out by reigning NL Manager-of-the-Year (and already lame-duck) manager Skip Schumaker:
