MLB news roundup
Happy Wednesday, Athletics Nation!
Tonight is the night we all get to go to bed with visions of Rooker, Severino, Butler, and the whole rest of the Athletics gang dancing in our heads! Opening Day is tomorrow, and while I desperately wish the baseball team we write about every day was still in Oakland, having baseball back is nevertheless a welcome relief.
Martin Gallegos at MLB.com has an Opening Day FAQ on the A’s first game of the regular season at T-Mobile Park in beautiful Seattle, WA. On his likely lineup cards, Gallegos has Max Muncy at second base in place of the injured Zack Gelof, though Max Shuemann and Luis Urías are also considered possible options to share the workload.
Gallegos also heralded some of the A’s big storylines for 2025 and went out on a limb with some predictions while he was at it. Among the storylines is the A’s new home field, Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, and just how hitter-friendly it will prove to be in comparison with the notoriously pitcher-friendly Coliseum.
I’m going to leave you with some good reasons to check out Gallegos’s piece, such as that you may be interested in his picks for the Athletics’ team MVP and Cy Young this season. I agree with one of ‘em.
Gallegos also makes the bold prediction that the A’s will clinch a Wild Card berth this year, to which I would say, sure—why not? As long as I don’t have to bet money on it. But what I’m really interested in is what and who the AN community thinks this year’s big storylines and top performers will be in 2025. Giddyup! And good luck to the A’s this year!

Another former Athletic lands in SF.
The Giants selected Lou Trivino to the big league roster. Big comeback for Trivino, who hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2022 due to numerous injuries.
David Villar was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man.
