MLB news roundup
Happy Monday, Athletics Nation!
Yesterday, MLB announced this year’s All-Star reserves to reveal that Brent Rooker is headed to his second Midsummer Classic in three seasons. Rooker will head to Atlanta next week with rookie shortstop Jacob Wilson, who won two rounds of fan voting to nab a starting spot on the AL squad.
Brent Rooker has been named to the 2025 All-Star game through the player ballot. He’ll join A’s teammate Jacob Wilson in Atlanta for his second career All-Star selection.

It’s been four years since the A’s had two players representing them at All-Star Week, even though Rooker deserved to accompany Mason Miller to the game last year. Brent was snubbed in 2024, but he wound up winning a Silver Slugger award and had a better line as of last 4th of July compared to this year.
- Rooker, 2024 season through July 4: 304 PA, .273/.349/.531, 17 HR, 151 wRC+
- Rooker, 2025 season through July 4: 396 PA, .273/.347/.491, 18 HR, 131 wRC+
Rooker has missed less time in the first half of 2025 compared to 2024, so he’s managed to hit more home runs so far this year even though he was significantly more productive on a per-at-bat basis in the first half of 2024. Regardless, Brent is giving the A’s their $60 million worth so far this year. Hopefully, getting the recognition that Rook was undeservedly denied last year will put a spring in his step and add some bounce to his bat in the second half of 2025.
Congratulations to the A’s 2025 All-Stars, Jacob Wilson and Brent Rooker!
Have a terrific week, AN.
