First chance at a sweep!

After taking the first two games versus the Rockies, the Athletics ave already secured their first series win of the season Now they’ll get a chance to collect their first sweep of the 2025 season as well in today’s series finale against Colorado. And based on how the first two games went, the squad has an excellent shot to do just that.

Taking the ball for the series finale will be right-hander Joey Estes, who is set to make his second start of the regular season. His first outing, the home-opener against the Chicago Cubs, left a lot to be desired as Estes allowed six earned runs in just four innings of work. He also allowed

Here is how the Athletics’ lineup will stack up today in the finale:

As you notice, starting catcher Shea Langeliers will head to the bench after catching the first two games of the series. The lineup will miss him today after he went 3-for-6 with four walks and a homer in the previous two contests. Taking his place behind the plate will be Jhonny Pereda, who is making just his second start of the season today. He’s 0-for-3 with two strikeouts to start the year so far.

With the regular cleanup hitter riding the bench today everyone else moves up a spot. That means first baseman Tyler Soderstrom will bat cleanup this afternoon with shortstop Jacob Wilson right behind him in the 5-hole. Those two have been among the team’s best hitters so far. The hope with Wilson was that he would force manager Mark Kotsay’s hand in rising up the lineup and he’s doing just that in the early going, leading the team with a .364 batting average so far.

Elsewhere in the lineup the regulars are back in there. Second base will be manned by rookie Max Muncy after a day off to clear his head, while veteran third baseman Gio Urshela is back at the hot corner after his own day off. Other than that the rest of the lineup looks pretty familiar, with the top three unchanged.

The starting nine will be facing a fresh face on the big league stage today as Colorado has called up prized pitching prospect Chase Dollander to make his big-league debut. The right-hander ranks as the sport’s #24 overall prospect and could be one of the first successful arms the Rockies have developed in a long, long time. The 23-year old has rocketed through Colorado’s system after being drafted ninth overall less than two years ago. With four above-average pitches the Rockies think they have a potential front-line starter on their hands and a lot of attention will be on how he does today in his first taste of the big leagues. Hopefully the A’s hit him hard and temper everyone’s expectations.

The Rockies lineup for the finale shakes out like this:

For the most part the same Colorado lineup as yesterday, though the bottom third of the order is completely different. One familiar name we’ll see today is former A’s outfielder Nick Martini, who played with the Athletics in 2018 and 2019. He’s bounced around quite a bit since departing the team, with his most recent stop now in Colorado. He’ll be in right field for the Rockies this afternoon.

Let’s go A’s! Secure the sweep!
