Back in Sacramento to start a new series
The Athletics are back in Sacramento to kick off a home stand. They’ll start things off with a three-game series against the division-rival Seattle Mariners, who are fighting for a spot in the playoffs.
The A’s will toss out left-hander JP Sears to get the series started. The third-year starter is still looking to rediscover his early-season form but encouragingly he’s coming off a quality outing last time out when he allowed just three hits in five innings of work. The A’s would gladly take that again tonight.

Still no Jacob Wilson who is still dealing with a sore hand, but the team will get first baseman Nick Kurtz back tonight, providing the offense with a massive boost to start the series. Rookie Carlos Cortes will draw the start in right field tonight over fellow rookie Colby Thomas with a right-handed pitcher on the opposing mound.
That starter will be Seattle’s Luis Castillo. He’s in the midst of his typically great seasons, posting a great 3.30 ERA as one of the anchors in a strong Seattle rotation. He’s pitched once against the A’s already this year, taking the loss in the second game of the year way back in April.

Time to put on your spoiler hats. Let’s deprive our rivals to the North of a much-needed win. Go A’s!
