Second game of the series coming right up!
Well the A’s almost won last night. The hey just couldn’t manage to get the big hit they needed. Perhaps tonight the baseball gods will smile on the Green & Gold and help us take the second game of the series against the contending Seattle Mariners.
It won’t be an easy task for right-hander Luis Severino tonight. His first year with the A’s has been a roller coaster but he’s gotten hit especially hard at his new home stadium. In 12 home starts in Sacramento Sevy has gotten rocked to the tune of a 6.68 ERA, going 0-9 in front of A’s fans. That’s compared to a much better looked 3.39 ERA in 10 road starts. Let’s see if he can conquer his Sacramento demons tonight against a Seattle team he’s already faced twice this year.

Get used to seeing no more Jacob Wilson in the starting lineup everyday after he was placed on the 10-day IL earlier today with a fractured left forearm. The club will be forced to turn to another young shortstop in Darell Hernaiz. Most of the rest of the regulars are in there for tonight’s contest. Third base will be handled by trade candidate Miguel Andujar, whose defense at the hot corner will be closely monitored leading up to the deadline. And rookie Carlos Cortes will handle right field duties again with a right-handed pitcher on the mound for the Mariners.
For Seattle, their starting pitcher tonight will be right-handed rookie Logan Evans, who has gotten out to a quick start in his career. He’s made 11 starts already for Seattle and posted a strong 3.64 ERA in his first taste of the major leagues. Ranked as the team’s #20 prospect last year, this’ll be the first of likely many times that Evans takes on the Athletics, so let’s start this matchup on the right foot.
