One-run victory!
The Oakland A’s won! They beat the Chicago White Sox 5-4 on Thursday at Guaranteed Rate Field, salvaging the finale and avoiding a sweep.
Full recap coming, but I have an appointment right now so here’s a quickie in the meantime.

Cole Irvin started on the mound and played stopper for the team’s recent skid, with a quality start of six innings and three runs.
The A’s hit three homers. The first two were solo, by Sean Murphy and Matt Chapman. The last one wasn’t, and the extra run made the difference. Matt Olson hit the winning two-run blast in the 7th inning.
The bullpen also did its job, with three strong innings. Lou Trivino was charged with an unearned run, but still sealed up the save.
This series didn’t go how any of us wanted, between losing three out of four and also suffering a major injury to a key star player. But the trip to Chicago ended on a positive note, so let’s see if they can build on that.
