Game #28: Athletics vs. White Sox Game Thread

Rubber match on a Sunday afternoon

It’s getaway day for the A’s as they take on the White Sox to wrap up the home stand Sunday in Sacramento. After splitting the first two games either team can win the series with a victory today so let’s hope the A’s come ready to play this afternoon. They can get back to a .500 record before beginning their road trip with a win over their AL Central foes.

Taking the ball for the home team will be righty Osvaldo Bido. He’s coming off easily his worst start of the season when he allowed eight earned runs that bumped his ERA up over two full points. That was a clear aberration as he’d allowed no more than two earned runs in any of his previous four starts. He’ll be looking to show that was a one-time blow up and bounce back today against the White Sox, who he faced last week and tossed 5 1⁄3 while allowing just one run. He’d take that line again today.

Right fielder and leadoff man Lawrence Butler is back in the lineup after getting his first off day of the season yesterday. He’ll be followed by the usual suspects Brent Rooker and Tyler Soderstrom.

Also back in the lineup is starting catcher Shea Langeliers, who also got the day off yesterday but is back in his cleanup spot and behind home plate for the finale. We will see a change at the hot corner today as Gio Urshela takes a seat on the bench while Max Schuemann gets the start at third base.

The lineup will be facing left-hander Brandon Eisert to start today’s game. The White Sox have now changed their pitching plans right before game time for the third straight time, changing to Eisert as an opener. Right-hander Davis Martin was lined up to start today’s game and he’ll now instead likely enter in the top of the second inning to be the “bulk” pitcher today. He’s been solid for Chicago in the first month, posting a 3.95 ERA over five starts.
