Wrapping up the road trip
Rise and shine! The A’s are set to wrap up their road trip with an early morning contest against the Miami Marlins.
The A’s have split the weekend series with Miami so far, taking the first game Friday night before blowing a late lead in yesterday afternoon’s contest. The team stands at 18-16 and can still win the series with a victory today.
The team will rely on left-hander JP Sears to get the team to its 19th victory. The third-year starter has been the team’s best and most consistent arm in the rotation so far this year. He’s sporting a 2.94 ERA that leads the staff and he’s coming off a strong start that saw him allow just one run in five innings of work with seven strikeouts and no walks. The team would gladly take more of the same today against a struggling Marlins lineup.
The starting nine for today’s contest looks like this for the A’s:

The team is finally giving Tyler Soderstrom a day off after playing in every game so far this season. Right-handed hitter Miguel Andujar will take Soderstrom’s spot in lett field. He will also bat cleanup in place of starting catcher Shea Langeliers, who is also getting the day off after catching all nine innings of the first two games against the Marlins. Backup Jhonny Pereda will be behind the dish and batting ninth today.
Taking the ball on the other side will be right-hander Edward Cabrera. A former top prospect in the Miami system Cabrera has been around for five seasons now and has yet to firmly establish himself in the big league rotation. He’s gotten off to a rough start so far here in 2025 as he’s sporting an ugly 7.23 ERA over his first four starts. The A’s will need to capitalize on the struggling hurler if they want to escape Florida with the series win.
