21-20 A’s within reach of the Mariners with another win
After a dominant 11-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers last night at Chavez Ravine, the Athletics will face them again tonight in game two of the three-game series at Dodger Stadium. Will the A’s continue their power surge tonight after a five-homer barrage against the homestanding Dodgers? Jacob Wilson sure seems to enjoy his SoCal homecoming. The Thousand Oaks native who went 4-5 with two homers and four RBI’s is making his first professional visit to the stadium.
Taking the mound for the A’s today is 25-year-old rookie righty Gunnar Hoglund. He is making his third start of his MLB career and is 1-0, with a 2.38 ERA and ten strikeouts in 11.1 innings. Hoglund will face 26-year-old righty Yoshinobu Yamamoto, in his second year in the MLB after starting his career in Japan. Yamamoto, who seems to be avoiding a sophomore slump, is 4-3 with a 1.80 ERA over eight starts. He’s tossed 53 strikeouts in 45 innings.
