Back home and looking to snap this losing streak
The Athletics are finally back home after their California road trip. Things did not go well for the team on the road as they went just 1-5 including a sweep at the hands of the San Francisco Giants. Now the team is back home and will hope to see their five-game losing streak come to an end with a victory over the Angels tonight.
The Green & Gold will welcome right-handed rookie JT Ginn back to the team after a couple missed starts on the IL and he’ll be the pitcher on the mound to start the series. He’s already made three starts for the Athletics this season and has a 4.61 ERA that he’ll be trying to lower into the 3’s by the end of tonight’s outing.
The starting nine for tonight’s first game against the Angels looks like this:

We had a slight late change to the lineup tonight. Third base was originally supposed to be manned by Miguel Andujar tonight but he will instead start this game on the bench. He’s dealing with minor rib soreness but is available as a late-game pinch-hitter if the need arises:
Miguel Andujar is dealing with right rib soreness. Kotsay said he’s probably available off the bench tonight but they want to give him a break from the field.

It doesn’t sound too serious and it’s likely precautionary in nature. Veteran Gio Urshela will take over the hot corner in his place and batting ninth. Elsewhere in the lineup right fielder Lawrence Butler takes back over at the top of the lineup with a right-handed pitcher on the hill for LA. Jacob Wilson will be right behind him in the 2-hole. All the other starters are in there for the beginning of the series against their divisional opponent.
Los Angeles is coming into this contest with tons of momentum. They’re coming off a stunning three-game sweep of the cross-town rival Dodgers and are playing their best baseball of the season. Tonight they’ll hope veteran Kyle Hendricks can extend their win streak against a slumping A’s squad. The Athletics are desperate to avoid their sixth straight loss so he’ll be going up against a desperate team determined to score plenty of runs to back up Ginn.
