Hoping to to avoid a home sweep
The series finale is set to commence as the Athletics take the field against their rivals the Angels. The club has fallen on hard times as they’re riding an eight-game losing streak and are hoping to at least steal one game against their SoCal rivals. Otherwise they’ll suffer a four-game sweep at the hands of the Halos.
Veteran righty Luis Severino will take the ball for what will be his 11th start of the year for the Green & Gold. Over that time he’s allowed 28 runs in 59 2⁄3 innings, good for a 4.22 ERA in his first season with the A’s.

Good news here is Jacob Wilson is back in the lineup after dodging injury. He’s batting second behind Max Schuemann who will be in the leadoff spot for the first time today and playing second. A couple other regulars are getting the day off as Lawrence Butler and Shea Langeliers get a breather. That means regular DH Brent Rooker will grab his glove off the shelf and man right field today. Left fielder/third baseman Miguel Andujar gets a day off from the field while Gio Urshela slides in at the hot corner.
That lineup will be going up against Angels ace Tyler Anderson. The veteran lefty is having a terrific season in the final year of his deal as he’s sporting a 3.04 ERA through nine starts. The A’s lineup won’t have an easy time against the veteran.
