Who wins the series between these two clubs?
Each team has beaten up on the other in the first two games of the series, with the A’s taking Game One in a 10-1 final while Atlanta won yesterday with a 9-2 win. Now tonight’s game will determine who takes the series, and hopefully the A’s can win it in front of the home crowd.
The Athletics’ starting pitcher tonight will be left-hander JP Sears. His third full season has been a roller coaster with high peaks and low valleys. He was the team’s best pitcher for the first month and a half of the season. A bad outing against the Giants in mid-may threw him off his tracks and he went from the strongest link to the weakest in the starting unit. He’s begun slowly turning things around in recent outings, and his previous two starts were terrific, allowing just five hits and no runs over 11 2⁄3 innings. He’ll hope to finish the half strong and build some momentum going into the second half.

Right fielder Lawrence Butler will bat leadoff for what is his bobblehead night at the ballpark. Let’s see if he can provide any fireworks for his fans. Still no Jacob Wilson, who is dealing with a wrist issue at the moment after a HBP in Tuesday night’s contest. For the second night in a row Max Muncy will take over shortstop duties. That opens up third base and none other than Miguel Andujar will handle the hot corner. This will be his first big league action since being activated off the IL yesterday and we’re all hoping it’s a successful return. And behind the plate will be backup Austin Wynns after starting catcher Shea Langeliers caught all nine innings of both previous games.
Atlanta’s starting pitcher for the series finale will be Spencer Strider. Once one of the best pitchers in the sport, Strider underwent UCL surgery on his elbow last year but returned in time to rejoin the team in April. His return back from major elbow surgery has been solid, though he hasn’t gotten back to the pitcher that placed fourth in Cy Young voting just two seasons ago. He still has the ability to shut down lineups on any given night so the A’s hitters better be ready for Strider.

Former A Sean Murphy is back in the starting lineup for Atlanta, who will be sending out all their starters for the series finale.
Let’s go A’s!
