Game Thread #107: A’s at Angels

Finale in Anaheim

The Oakland A’s and Los Angeles Angels have one more game left in their long weekend series. So far it’s been a low-scoring matchup, with only seven total runs crossing the plate in the first three games by both teams combined. Oakland won the first two contests but dropped the third, and in each game the loser was shut out completely.

The finale features a pitching matchup between two rookies who are particularly inexperienced but also highly touted. For the A’s, Daulton Jefferies makes only his second career MLB start, and his first of the 2021 season. He’s No. 5 on our Community Prospect List, and is also a local product out of UC Berkeley.

For the Angels, Reid Detmers makes his MLB debut. He was a 1st-round draft pick last summer (No. 10 overall), so he didn’t even make his pro debut until this year, and his entire career so far consists of a dozen starts at Double-A and then one at Triple-A last weekend. He opened the season as a national Top 100 prospect, and was later chosen to represent his club at the All-Star Futures Game in July.

Times are a changin’..Daulton Jefferies has thrown 158 minor league innings and Reid Detmers only 60..and they face each other today in Anaheim
