Rematch against Padres
The Oakland A’s and San Diego Padres played a couple games down south at Petco Park last week, resulting in a split as each side won once. They’ll do it again this week at the Coliseum, beginning Tuesday night.
Not only is it a rematch between the two teams, but also between their star lefty starting pitchers, as Sean Manaea and Blake Snell face off for the second time in six days. Last Wednesday, Manaea delivered six shutout innings, while a wild Snell got blasted for seven runs in four frames — including a homer by Matt Chapman. The A’s won that game 10-4.
Now Snell will face an even tougher task, as Oakland revamped their lineup at the trade deadline. Starling Marte is a new on-base machine toward the top of the order, while Yan Gomes and Josh Harrison add two more dangerous veteran righties for the southpaw to contend with.
Meanwhile, in absolute bummer news, San Diego is now without superstar shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr, who is on the injured list with a recurring shoulder issue that might end his season.
