Bay Bridge Series, Finale
We’ve reached the end of the 2021 Bay Bridge Series. The two teams have split the first two games of the Coliseum edition, but the San Francisco Giants lead the overall season series 3-2. The Oakland A’s can even it up Sunday afternoon, and if they do win today they’ll still capture the Bridge Trophy since the silly tiebreaker is whoever wins the final game.
In order to do that, the A’s are going to need to play a good game and also finish it. Can’t put a bunch of runners on base and then just strand them all. Can’t take an early lead and then blow it at the end, like yesterday. Gotta play well on both sides of the ball for all nine innings.
Oakland sends Frankie Montas to the mound. He had a string of six straight quality starts but snapped it his last time out, in a still-decent outing against the White Sox. He’s started once against the Giants this year, working five innings and allowing two runs (including a homer by yesterday’s hero LaMonte Wade Jr) in an eventual heartbreaking loss. Please don’t let that be foreshadowing.
